The Writing Gap

For many students starting their first semester of college there is a sort of disconnect when it comes to writing that first paper. Even the best writer in their twelfth grade class will most likely be a touch stumped when they sit down to write this first paper. When reading the article “Bridging the Gap: Centering Student Voices in High School and College Writing” We see a few of the common “Gaps” that many new college writers get stuck on. Some of these gaps I will even admit to have fallen into and am just now learning to break out of.

The gap that I found to be the most relatable was the one of the well known 5-paragraph essay. You know the one, introduction, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion. Every student in my high school English class had this lesson crammed don their throat so much so that even know I sometimes fall back into that pit fall.
